Serre Chevalier Summer Activities

The Mediterranean influences bring beautiful clear blue skies and temperatures in the twenties throughout the summer.

Rainfall is rare in peak summer, but there are storms which do come and go equally as quickly. Think mediterranean storm!  As well as  Briançon, a UNESCO World Heritage site,  there is also a huge amount to do in the resorts of Serre Chevalier and Montgenevre who pretty well offers every single outdoor sport imaginable.

We are situated in the Parc National des Ecrins National,  experience everything from white water sports on the Guisane river (which runs through the Serre Chevalier valley) to horse riding, climbing, walking and cycling. Every sport is supported by a wealth of specialist guides and it is well worth investing in someone experienced to show you the mountain. There are some outstanding walks into the National Park – with stop overs at various refuges on the way, ditto guides for the bike trails who will often drive you up into the mountain and arrange for the driver to pick you up and the end of your adventure!

On almost any trip into the mountains you should have the chance to see some of the incredible wildlife including chamois, golden eagles, alpine ibex, peregrine falcons, marmots or even the rare Apollo butterfly.

The Tour de France usually includes a stage starting or finishing in Briançon and cycling is a hugely popular sport, downhill biking (including full body armour) is the latest craze but a majority of us stick to road or mountain bikes. Several of the lifts are open during the summer so you can take your bike up and ride down where you may have skied a few months earlier. There are also loads of trails which are lovely and flat and run along the river.

Summer Activities are literally endless – here’s a sample list of things to tempt you – a sample of which we go into more detail here on the website.

If you are travelling peak summer, it is probably a good idea to try and book some things in advance as groups are small and guides do get booked up.
